This approach provides social interaction, a sense of purpose, and opportunities for lifelong learning. To address barriers to participation, such as stigma and past negative experiences, the project offers tailored support through a bespoke suite of educational resources. A key component is the Community Coaching Programme, which delivers both educational and emotional support. The initiative also features bite-sized micro-learning resources, curated within the Educators’ Toolbox, to cover topics of interest in an accessible format. To encourage engagement and outreach, Community Learning Festivals connect educators with isolated older individuals, promoting social inclusion and encouraging participation. Overall, the project aims to build inclusive learning environments, increase adult education uptake, and strengthen community ties among older adults.
While exploring the Social Circles website, you’ll discover a wealth of resources designed to help adult educators integrate isolated older individuals, promote social inclusion, and encourage active participation. The site includes a comprehensive coaching programme featuring face-to-face and self-directed learning options while all resources are accessible digitally and are downloadable; toolkit witrh micro learning resources as well as a festival organisers handbook.
The project seeks to combat loneliness among older individuals through the use of adult education. It tackles barriers such as stigma and negative past experiences by offering robust support mechanisms. A tailored Community Coaching Programme delivers both educational and emotional assistance. Bite-sized micro-learning resources, housed within the Educators' Toolbox, address topics of interest. Community learning festivals act as outreach initiatives, linking educators with isolated older individuals and encouraging social inclusion.
Create Microlearning Resources to Engage Older Learners in Adult Education:
The development of a
robust toolbox of microlearning resources that adult educators can use to engage older adults back into education. These
resources will be flexible and engaging, centred around topics such as digital skills, time and budget management, the arts,
gardening, and hobbies.
The development of a bespoke coaching programme for adult educators is a
concrete step towards building effective inclusion skills in adult educators with the express aim of increasing their
capabilities to become community outreach leaders. The aim of this programme is to build the skills of adult educators to
become community coaches, providing them with the necessary skills for coaching older people to engage socially with
others in the community and engage with adult education as a form of combatting loneliness, as well as how to break down
the barriers that prevent entry to education for older adults such as social stigma, former experiences with formal education,
and anxiety surrounding their own capabilities.
Organise Community Learning Festivals which will serve as a celebration of learning,
creativity, and community spirit. It reflects the belief that education is a lifelong journey that should be accessible, enjoyable,
and deeply integrated into the fabric of local communities. These festivals will be conducted across all 6 partner countries to
promote social inclusion of older adult learners with the Educators’ Toolbox resources.

We will develop a comprehensive toolkit of resources that adult educators can use with older adult learners as short educational tasters, aimed at building their interest in education again through engaging topics and the social aspects of educational participation.
Festival Organisers Handbook will be developed to ensure that both adult and community education organisations have the necessary skills and resources to plan and implement a successful event.
Partners will design and implement a comprehensive community coaching programme. The in-service curriculum will consist of 42 hours of training, comprising 18 hours of face-to-face instruction and 24 hours of self-directed learning focusing on the pedagogic and theoretical aspects of the curriculum.
